  • This lesson will introduce your students to the basics of writing for the social sciences, including paper components, APA 6 format, proper use of sources. It can be run as one session in a extended class (2 hours and 45 minutes), or it can be broken into three separate lessons. These lessons should be incorporated before your student's first APA 6 writing assignment.
  • Zombies may not seem like a topic for scholarly or academic pursuit; however this could not be further from the truth. Classes revolving around zombies have sprung up in universities across the country covering topics from film studies, disease and even disaster preparedness. As an anthropologist I view zombies and their recent rise in popularity as an interesting facet of American culture, one worthy of examination. This course will fill a need for a seminar course within the Anthropology Department at Bridgewater State University. As a seminar the course will explore the role of zombies within American culture across many disciplines (history, film studies, and literature) to see how the zombie has both affected American culture and been affected by it. Formative assessment by the instructor will be used throughout the course and students will also participate in peer and self-assessment. Objects for assessment will include written papers, as well as blog and wiki entries, and multimedia presentations. The course will run one night a week for 10 weeks and will be two hours and forty minutes long.
